Shot Placement - Animal Vitals

Shot placement is everything when it comes to bowhunting. Depending on where you hit the amimal will greatly depend on whether or not you will score a trophy animal or lose it.

Before going hunting it is always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the game you will be hunting. There are a few ways you could do this: The first is to go onto google and search for pictures on the anatomy of the game you are hunting. The second way and probably the more preferred way is to practice on foam animal targets. There are companies out there that make these life size foam targets with accurate vital sections on them. Shooting at these will greatly help you to learn to judge distance and teach you where to shoot at the animal. Check out some of these targets:

McKenzie Layered Core 3-D Targets - Aim-Rite Bear
McKenzie Layered Core 3-D Targets - Large Deer
Rinehart Targets Tom Turkey 3-D Archery Target
Delta 3-D Target - Wild Boar

If you do not want to go out and purchase these targets you can always find an archery club, and some of them have 3D courses that have 20-25 foam targets set up in real hunting scenarios, and you can do these courses to help improve your shooting skill and shot placement accuracy. Below are some pictures of of different animals and their kill zones. These pictures are here just to give you a general idea of where the vitals would be on certain animals.
